When people think of vehicle tracking, they picture a dot moving on a map. Behind that dot there are several parts working together: the tracking device in the vehicle, the mobile network, servers and the app you use.
What does the device in the vehicle do?
The tracking device is concealed at a suitable point in the vehicle. Its GPS receiver picks up location from satellites, while sensors collect speed, ignition state, battery voltage and vibration data. Every few seconds the device sends this data over the mobile network to secure servers.
In the Rubikas system the main device does not work alone. It talks to the engine immobiliser module and the fingerprint reader over Bluetooth, which reduces cabling and shortens installation.
How does the data reach your screen?
Raw data arriving at the server is processed, turned into routes on the map and broken down into events: ignition on, zone exit, idling and so on. You follow it live from the web panel or the iOS and Android apps.
History is stored too, so you can replay yesterday's trip second by second and see exactly where a vehicle was at any time.
The security side: from tracking to protection
A good system does more than watch; it lets you intervene. When an unrecognised driver tries to start the vehicle, fingerprint verification fails, the system sends an alert and the immobiliser engages. The vehicle either will not start or is brought to a safe stop.
In short, a vehicle tracking system is the combination of location data, smart hardware and the right software. Installed properly, it protects your vehicle and makes your running costs visible.
